馬爾卡寧合同原本剩余1年1800萬美元，利用下賽季爵士的薪資空間再漲2400萬（下賽季薪資4200萬），然后在此基礎(chǔ)上再新簽一份4年1.96億的續(xù)約，續(xù)約合同沒有包括選項。

這份續(xù)約也讓馬爾卡寧在本賽季剩余階段不可交易，直到明年休賽期才可交易。
